About Mimi Cogswell, LPC, PC

Picture
Mimi Cogswell, LPC, PC has had a private practice in Oregon City for the past 19 years.  As she raised her twin boys and slowly built her practice, she worked part time for a national agency where she taught DBT, as well as Intensive Outpatient Therapy (IOP) groups and honed her skills in crisis intervention and trauma therapy. In 2018 she was able to fulfill her dream of transitioning to full time practice.  Mimi began teaching her self created class: 6 week Foundations of Mindfulness  in Oregon City in Fall of 2018, and has since had 56 attendees for her groups.  In consultation with the therapeutic community, it came to her attention that there was a need for DBT Skills Groups that were nearby, had availability, and were offered during evening hours to accommodate both working clients and stay at home parents of younger children.

Is Oregon City DBT a Full Fidelity Program**?
Our mission at Oregon City DBT is to provide access to DBT skills as quickly, affordably and efficiently as possible without disrupting our clients present therapeutic relationships with their providers of record.
After 16 months of success with our condensed 14 week skills program, we have decided to continue "as is" for the time being. Though "full fidelity" (see definition below) has been shown to be the most effective treatment option, partial fidelity has also been shown to be helpful.  Our partnership with therapists and agencies in the community has led to the success of over fifty two 14 week series graduates as of this writing.  We are happy to be hearing positive reports from our graduates of success at applying the skills to building a life worth living, including increased self confidence and improved relationships.   We recommend to all interested members to definitely get on the wait list of the full fidelity program near you, and are happy to be your resource until those openings come available.

*“Full fidelity DBT” includes four component parts: Individual Therapy, Skills Group,  Phone Coaching, and Consultation for the therapist.   The commitment of time for this type of program is typically a minimum of 24 weeks, with 2 hour groups a week and regular therapy with the DBT clinic you are affiliated with. Based on research, this is the most effective treatment modality  Waitlists for these programs run between 6 months to 1 year. presently  To get on these waitlists, please reach out to DBT Clinic of Portland, and Portland DBT Institute, to name a few programs here in the Portland Metro area.
